how long will postpartum bleeding (lochia) last?

Normal postpartum bleeding usually lasts around 4 to 6 weeks. The heaviest bleeding, called lochia, lasts for the first two to four days after giving birth - it’s your body’s natural way of cleansing and renewing after birth, gradually lightening over time.

A caesarean section, or C-section, is a major operation where a surgical incision is made through 5 layers to gain access to your uterus. While the outer skin may heal within days, the deeper layers beneath take their time — mending quietly over the next few months. Be kind to your body as it finds its strength again.
